Brian Grady joined the School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering (CBME) at the University of Oklahoma in 1994. His research focuses on surfactants in solution, in particular micelle characteristics, surfactant adsorption at the liquid-solid or air-liquid interface, biodegradable polymers, ion-containing polymers and x-ray characterization techniques (Scattering, Absorption).  He is Editor of Polymer Engineering and Science and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Surfactants and Detergents.  He has 150 refereed journal publications and has an h-index of 42.
He served as Chair of the Surfactant and Detergents division of the American Oil Chemist Society from 2016-2018 and served as President of the North American Thermal Analysis Society in 2014 and the Society of Plastics Engineers in 2018-2019.  Recent awards include being named as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (2021), the President’s Cup Winner of the Society of Plastics Engineers (2020), an Honored Service Member (2016) and Technical Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (2012), and the President’s Distinguished Faculty Mentoring Program Outstanding Mentor Award at the University of Oklahoma (2014).  He is also an NSF CAREER award winner.  Grady’s research has been supported by NSF, DOE, NIH and DOD, and a number of industries, with total funding of over $12 M.  During 2000-2001, he was awarded a Humboldt Research Award to work at the Max Planck for Colloid and Interface Science in Potsdam, Germany.
Since 2009, he has been the Director of the Institute for Applied Surfactant Research at the University of Oklahoma and served as Director of CBME from 2014-2022.
